Dana Marie Kennedy is the State Director for AARP Arizona. Ms. Kennedy has more than 25 years as a leading advocate for working families, retirees, and women at the local, state and national levels. Prior to joining AARP, Kennedy was District Senior Advisor and Casework Director for U.S. Arizona Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema.
As State Director, Kennedy is making AARP the go-to organization for Arizonans who are 50 plus, working on issues that matter most to families and fulfilling the mission of AARP to live their best life possible. One of her main passions is helping people age in place-- living independently in their home for as long as possible and partnering with our aging community on issues important to older Arizonans.
Kennedy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, a Certificate in Gerontology from California State University Long Beach. She has a Master’s in Social Work, Certificates in Human Service Management and Gerontology from Boston University. Kennedy is a graduate of the Women's Campaign School at Yale (Class of 2007) and Valley Leadership (Class 34) and a Flinn-Brown fellow.
Kennedy is an endurance athlete and spends her free time training for triathlons and marathons. She has completed 10 marathons and numerous triathlons including Ironman Arizona, Kona in 2015 and Ironman Santa Rosa. Dana and her Dog Kona can often be found running along the Arizona canals or hiking many of Phoenix’s city preserves during sunrise. This is her favorite time to think creatively about solving difficult problems. Her favorite saying is, “If your dreams don’t frighten you, they aren’t big enough”.
